ResumoThis article argues that the children’s picture book biographies of Wangari Maathai, co-founder of the Green Belt Movement, by and large overlook the imperial underpinnings of Kenya’s environmental problems, over-simplify environmental crisis and resolution, and endorse a form of environmentalism that privileges individual action over collective effort and social change.
