ResumoIn recent years, various rocks that have potassium in their mineralogical composition have been tested for use as an alternative source of this nutrient to plants.Thus, the main objective of this research was to estimate the influence of an alternative source in the initial growth of mahogany seedlings (Swietenia macrophylla King).The experimental design was randomized blocks with 5 treatments (doses: 0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 kg ha -1 ) and 6 repetitions.The seedlings were grown in 2 liter plastic bags, filled with substrate and having ten seeds sown per bag.The seedlings were grown from seeds with 90% germination, collected from 10 mother plants in Praia
