Resumo

The feather mite genus Thysanocercus, Gaud 1957 (Alloptidae, Thysanocercinae) is discussed with a redescription of the type species, T. cypseli (Canestrini and Berlese, 1881) collected from Apus apus. T. callithyrus, Gaud and Mouchet 1959, is synonomized with T. cypseli and five new african species are described and illustrated. The species include: T. affinis n. sp. from Apus affinis, T. brachyurus n. sp. from Neafrapus cassini, T. cerionotus n. sp. from Schoutedenapus myoptilus, T. parvulus n. sp. from Cypsiurus parvus and T. tanycnemus n. sp. from Zoonavena grandidieri. Keys to males and females are provided.
