ResumoMuch of the research in the soil testing area has dealt with developing chemical procedures for evaluating the levels of available nutrients in the soil. Techniques must be available for relating results of soil tests using these procedures to crop yield response before such results are useful. Regardless of model and response variable to be used, reliable data must be available for good soil test correlation work. Experiments are necessary to provide data for soil test correlation. R. B. Cate and L. A. Nelson developed a graphical method for partitioning the two-dimensional percentage yield versus soil test level scatter into two groups. The joint dependence of crop yield on more than one soil nutrient implies that soil test correlation should be carried out on two or more nutrients simultaneously. It is especially important to use such an approach where interaction between the added nutrients occurs.
