Resumo

This study comprises a fl oristic survey and taxonomic treatment of the family Rubiaceae in themunicipality of Ilha Grande, Piaui State, Brazil. This area is located in the Delta of the Parnaiba River. Seven genera and 12 species were recorded: Borreria scabiosoides Cham. & Schltdl., B. spinosa (L.) Cham. & Schltdl., B. verticillata (L.) G. Mey., Chiococca alba (L.) Hitchc., Diodella apiculata (Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) Delprete, D. teres (Walt.) Small, Genipa americana L., Machaonia acuminata Bonpl. in Humb. & Bonpl., Mitracarpus baturitensis Sucre, M. salzmannianus DC., Richardia grandifl ora (Cham. & Schltdl.) Steud., and R. scabra L. An identifi cation key, descriptions, illustrations, distribution, and habitat of the species are provided.
