ResumoSyntheses of zeolite ZSM-20 from various Na2O-TEA2O-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O gel compositions under a variety of crystallization conditions have been investigated. In particular, the influence of K+ cations, and the addition of seeds and nuclei have been studied. Products were characterized by chemical analyses, sorption measurements, infra-red spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXD) and electron microscopy. Confirming earlier work, materials similar to those described in the original ZSM-20 patents are formed only from a narrow range of gel compositions. Structurally, however, such products are not phase-pure, comprising crystals of cubic and mixed cubic and hexagonal stackings of faujasite sheets.
