ResumoThis study consists of an ethnobotanical survey of the medicinal plants in the Municipal of Jupi,Pernambuco State, northeastern Brazil. Plants used in the urban and rural areas were sampled. A hundred six (106) species were recorded, distributed in 50 families. Within them, 30% of the species occur spontaneously in open areas and the remaining 70% are cultivated in gardens, back yards, orchards or purchased in surrounding markets. The families with larger representatives in species number were: Lamiaceae (11), Asteraceae (08), Cucurbitaceae (07), Caesalpiniaceae and Myrtaceae (05), followed by Anacardiaceae and Mimosaceae, both represented by four species. The data obtained in this study showed a considerable number of plant species used in the cure of diseases of several natures. A checklist presenting relevant information, especially regarding to the manners of application of the species provided by the interviewee is presented.
