ResumoModel hydrophobically end-capped poly(ethylene oxides) were synthetized with protonated and deuterated end groups. Their associative properties in water as a function of their hydrophobicity were studied by viscosimetry, turbidimetry, fluorescence, and neutron scattering. Different concentration thresholds that allow the description of the different steps of association were identified. The neutron-scattering experiments can be interpreted by a model in which end groups are assumed to be gathered in spherical micelles. These micelles are organized in a liquid cubic lattice at higher concentrations.
