Aquaculture is the farming of organisms with life cycles that occur fully or partially on aquatic systems. The aim of this study was to monitor the concentrations of total and thermo-tolerant coliforms in water near mussels cultivation in Rasa Beach, Armacao dos Buzios (RJ). Sampling was performed between February 2014 and March 2015. There are statistically significant differences in thermo-tolerant coliform concentrations between the interior of the marina channel and the cultivation external point. Data suggest that the wastewater discharge channel contributes effectively to the contamination of the cultivation area with thermo-tolerant coliform.
