Resumo

Today, in Early Modern History Studies, the History of Political Thought has taken new questions and approaches whose main preoccupations have been how thinking Early Modern personalities and ideas conforming to the epochal singularity of their political vocabulary and discursive genre. Therefore, an important turning point of approach in the History of Political Thoughts has been how preventing to analyze the development of Early Modern political themes as if they accomplished an unbreakable metanarrative agenda of modernity -for instance, individual emancipation and/or secularization of values.Since 1980's, in Early Modern Sovereignty Studies, a critical attention has paid to comprehend the role of Religious Ideas out of Enlightenment metanarrative expectations, and alternatively to emphasize how the theological kinds of political thoughts got across understandings and disputations concerning on the relationship between civil obedience and faith. Then, considering this approach, this paper intends to make a contextual introductory study of Calvin's treatise "On Civil Authority", which is followed by selections of itself whose functions are as serving to prove the main hypotheses of this study as anthologizing an important 16 th Century documentation to be used in Early Modern History lessons.
