For constructing an intelligent multimedia database system, we have been focusing on an intelligent retriever using keywords which are defined as abstract descriptions of archived multimedia data. We proposed a front-end database preprocessor called “keyword-network” where multiple keywords are linked together beyond these semantic relationship and its structure will be updated by users' retrieval operations.Although this model could be applied for a distributed database system, in this paper we propose an extended idea called “distributed keyword-networks”. This is an inter-networking model between multiple “keyword-networks”, which provides capability to grow not only for a distributed database system but also for a stand-alone database system. We also propose a CAD tool for developing this new type of database systems, and show one of our developed applications using that, a database of cardiovascular disorder cases. Although the evaluation of this application has not been done yet, we are considering various possibilities to extend and apply our introduced new models.
