ResumoThe analysis of 39 publications which registered Euglenophyta from 1972 to 2000 in the Rio Grande do Sul State, resulted in a list of 244 generic, specific and infraspecific taxa of this group of algae. The majority of the researches were carried out in the Central Depression region of the State, mainly in pond, river and lakes, which shows the need for including other regions for research in the State, as well as others environments. Trochelomonas was the most recorded genus, representing 36% of the taxa cited in the state. This evaluation shows the need to increase the studies of Euglenophyta through the formation and training of human resources as well as their placement in research institutions, as currently, there are only three specialists working with this algae group in the country.
