ResumoDuring the late seventeenth century, King Hespero and the Hesperides Islands reappeared to defend the Spanish origin of the Araucaria people in the History general del reino de Chile (General History of the Kingdom of Chile) by Diego Rosales. This study analyzes the process Rosales used in constructing his discourse. It also examines the way in which sources were used and inserted in his History...The coherence between these materials and the discursive context in which they were employed explain some apparent contradictions and discontinuities in his account.
