ResumoThis study presents the floristic composition and a phytosociology survey of a herbaceous community on a dune slack at Quintao beach, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Quadrats of 0,25 m 2 were arranged along a humidity gradient and the actual cover for the species was estimated. In the floristic inventory there were 105 species, belonging to 29 families. Cyperaceae, Poaceae, and Asteraceae were the most important families. Phytosociological parameter variations of the families and some species were recorded by season. Panicum gouinii presented the highest values for cover and frequency in all samples. Seasonal effects were observed through variations in cover estimates of some species; perennial species were dominant. Winter was the main responsible season for variation in cover and frequency.
