Resumo

The recent experimental observation of a pronounced Seebeck effect in the mixed state of high-${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$ superconductors is explained by a model based on the counterflow of a quasiparticle current and a supercurrent in the presence of a temperature gradient. The relatively large magnitude of this effect is due to the negligible amount of flux pinning above the irreversibility line in high-${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$ superconductors.
