Autores ResumoThe Institute of classical Archaeology of the University of Strasbourg contains 1800 very old photographs collected by the German archaeologist Adolf Michaelis (1865-1910), the founder of this institute. If the main part of the «Michaelis collection» is dated from the years 1860 to 1900, about 200 photographs belong to the years 1850. They allow one to better know the first phase of the activity of famous photographers such as James Anderson, Giorgio Sommer, Philippos Margaritis, Dimitrios Konstantinou... . Almost all the photographers identified in the collection worked permanently or partly in Greece and in Italy. Some of them are highly talented photographers such as Paul des Granges, P. Bette, and William Stillman (Alinari, Brogi, Sommer, Sebah) and represent the principal interest of this collection.
