Resumo

A Gerontologia e um dos saberes voltados ao estudo e a intervencao no campo do envelhecimento, e como tal tem se defrontado com o aumento, a diversificacao e a crescente complexidade das demandas sociais, cientificas, eticas e politicas. Neste artigo, apresentamos um conjunto de questoes com as quais se defrontam os pesquisadores, profissionais e aqueles responsaveis pela elaboracao de politicas publicas voltadas para a populacao idosa. Trata-se de uma leitura critica da Gerontologia, baseada na identificacao e discussao de seus dilemas atuais. Concretamente, o presente texto esta organizado em torno de quatro eixos de reflexao: 1) o desafio etico da minoridade; 2) o desafio teoricoideologico; 3) o desafio da indignacao e da “judicializacao”; e 4) o desafio da rerritualizacao vital. Entendemos que a reflexao sobre estas questoes se inscreve num movimento de sistematizacao e discussao da heranca intelectual da Gerontologia.Abstract: Gerontology is one of the fields of knowledge dedicated to the study and intervention in the field of aging. It has been facing a changing and increasing complexity of social, scientific, ethical, and political demands. In this article we present a set of questions that challenge the researchers, professionals, and other subjects responsible for the elaboration of public policies for the elderly population. This study is a critical analysis of gerontology based on the identification and discussion of its current dilemmas. In terms of structure, the present text is organized into four themes for reflection: 1) the ethical challenge of the minority; 2) the theoretical-ideological challenge; 3) the challenge of indignation and “judiciousness”; and 4) the challenge of vital re-ritualization. We understand that reflection about these issues is part of a movement for the systematization and discussion of the intellectual inheritance of gerontology.Key words: Gerontology. Aging. Ethics.
