ResumoThis paper aims to study the impact of imperialism and the posterior maintenance of the ties of economic dependency of the Democratic Republic of Congo. To study imperialism, worldwide and particularly the one related to the colonization of the Democratic Republic of Congo by Belgium, one needs to study the country’s history, therefore is made a theoretical discussion about the basic precepts of imperialism presenting its origin and the main reasons that lead to the split of the world by capitalist countries. Afterwards, this paper approaches the process of colonisation of the Dem. Rep. of Congo which was made by Belgium. Also, this work presents the following subjects: Dependency Theory, the Ricardian Law of Comparative Advantage and Deterioration of the Terms of Trade. Last but not least, this work makes an interpretative analysis of Dem. Rep. of Congo’s exportations based on theoretical concepts studied throughout this paper.
