ResumoAs Pope John Paul II emphasized in the beginning of his exhortation on the Christian family (Familiaris consortio) on November 22, 1981, the Church may be led to a more profound compréhension of the unfathomable mystery of marriage through real, lived situations. It is in the concrète perspective evoked by the Sovereign Pontiff which leaves open the way to more fundamental research, that the author, judge at the marriage tribunal of Tournai for nearly 25 years, présents a broad inventory of the problems which, according to him, are raised with regard to marriage by the présent contributions of sociology (I), fundamental moral theology (II) and dogmatic theology (III). On the basis ofthe analysis of thèse éléments, he arrives at certain practical conclusions in the juridical and pastoral areas. This essay, fully inspired by a concern for realism, calls for further research nurtured by close collaboration among ail the disciplines related to the problematic of marriage.
