ResumoA case of infection due to Entamoeba polecki in a Peace Corps volunteer is presented. Although the patient was intensively treated for E. histolytica infection for more than a year, no serologic or pathologic confirmation of this diagnosis could be elicited and her clinical condition did not improve significantly. The significance of finding E. polecki in humans is discussed and the tests necessary for detection and the criteria for identification are reviewed.
