Resumo

On November 7th, 2014, the German avant-garde musicians Einstürzende Neubauten released a new album based on a performance commissionned by the Flemish city of Diksmuide in order to commemorate the beginning of the First World War. Through research, they fell upon recordings made by linguists during these years or upon the songs of the Harlem Hellfighters, an infantry regiment composed of Afro-American musicians who introduced jazz in Europe. In this interview, the band's leader Blixa Bargeld explains their will to come back to ancient forms of music and to explore new dimensions of their art by using the discoveries they have made, while paying tribute to the persons who died in this tragic conflict and considering war as an ongoing process.
