Resumo

The inferiority and low self-esteem complex develop in the life of people mainly due to an erroneous perception of the essence of the human being. This state of depression is influenced by the culture of the perfect body which determines and defines that which is esthetically beautiful and efficient. The result of this thought creates in the individuals which do not meet this concept of perfection a complexed conscience. Faced with this the research aims at analyzing the inferiority and low self-esteem complex in people with deficiencies. The methodology adopted was a bibliographic review with contributions from various authors who dialog about and discuss this theme. The study propitiated the understanding that the inferiority complex is established because of a bad interpretation of the self-concept and self-image that people have of themselves. Low self-esteem is constituted by inappropriate comparisons which do not express the true qualities of the human beings. Many people with deficiencies feel inferiorized due to the deficiency. In this way the challenges of pastoral counseling are established through a survey of the causes and the effects of the problem and consequently, it becomes essential for the counselor to expound a model of counseling based on the perception of the intrinsic values of each person which extoll all human beings in the light of the Christian revelation.
