ResumoespanolCuando Machado escribe la version en prosa de La tierra de Alvargonzalez, hace referencia en su texto a los romances de ciego sobre crimenes y menciona un asesinato reciente, el de Duruelo, cometido en esa localidad soriana a mediados de julio de 1910. ?Hubo o no composiciones populares sobre el? Como aqui se explicara, una pertinaz “miopia teorica” obstaculizo que muchas creaciones de ese tipo fueran recogidas en su dia, cuando aun existia una abundante documentacion oral que podia ayudar a comprender los procesos de creacion y transmision de tales poemas. Este trabajo se ocupa de un romance popular casi desconocido que habla de dicho crimen y del que solo consta una version recopilada en 1982. A partir de sus versos, se indaga en las circunstancias –y polemicas– que siguieron al descubrimiento del delito hasta calar en la realidad antropologica de aquella Soria, percibida por Machado en su poesia como una tierra cruzada por 'la sombra de Cain'. EnglishWhen Machado wrote his prose version of La tierra de Alvargonzalez, he made reference in his work to some popular ballads dealing with crimes and mentions in particular a recent assassination that took place in Duruelo (Soria) in mid-July, 1910. Was there a popular ballad on this recent event? A “myopic” theoretical approach prevented the collection of many of these popular ballads at that time, when there was abundant oral documentation that could have helped scholars to understand how these compositions were created and disseminated. This article focuses on an almost- unknown popular ballad that deals with the Duruelo crime and of which only one version is attested (from 1982). Taking this poem as a point of departure, the author delves into the circumstances surrounding the crime and makes some anthropological remarks on that Soria, perceived by Machado as a land marked by 'Cain’s shadow'.
