ResumoThe authors studied, by means of column and thin layer chromatography, the occurrence of various carotenoids in 8 fish species caught off Falkland Islands (Dissostichus ele ginoides, Genypterus blacodes, Macruronus magellanicus, Micromesistius australis, Merluccius merluccius, Raja geor giana, Salilota australis, and Jloucoetes fimbriatus).The presence of 20 carotenoids was found.The occurren ce of ester forms of 2'-norastaxanthin was shown in fish for the first time.The total carotenoid content was found to range from 0.012 (Iloucoetes fimbriatus) to 0.744 µg/g wet weight (Macrnronus magellanicus liver).
