A funcao de professor mediador escolar e comunitario (PMEC) foi instituida no Estado de Sao Paulo, Brasil, em 2010, atraves da implantacao do Sistema de Protecao Escolar, cujo proposito e coordenar o planejamento de execucao de medidas de prevencao, mediacao e resolucao de conflitos no ambiente escolar. Este estudo visou caracterizar os PMEC alocados em uma Diretoria de Ensino do interior paulista, com a construcao do seu perfil e, especialmente, reunindo e discutindo suas proposicoes e estrategias de acao. Para tanto, lancou mao da aplicacao de um questionario que alcancou 82% deles. Verificou-se que a principal acao foi o combate a evasao escolar, diretriz da referida Diretoria, para o que os PMECs buscaram apoio em servicos de saude, Conselho Tutelar, servicos de seguranca publica e naqueles de protecao social, numa perspectiva centrada no individuo, especificamente o aluno, ao inves de uma perspectiva tambem coletiva que abrangesse outros atores escolares e comunitarios. The School and Community Mediator Teacher: A Practice in Construction Abstract The role of school and community mediator teacher (PMEC) was established in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2010, through the implementation of the School Protection System, whose purpose is to coordinate the planning of execution of preventive measures, mediation and conflict resolution in the school environment. This study intended to characterize the PMECs that are allocated in a Board of Education in the hinterland of Sao Paulo with the construction of their profile, meeting and discussing their proposals and strategies of action. For that, a survey was applied, reaching 82% of them. It was found that the main action was to combat truancy, which is the specific focus of that Board and for what the PMECs searched for support in health services, Child Protection Council, public safety and social protection services, in a perspective centered on the individual, specifically the student, rather than a collective perspective covering other school and community characters.
