Resumo

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) was created in 2010 to fund patient-centered comparative effectiveness research (CER) that evaluates interventions currently used in clinical practice to address questions of importance to patients and other stakeholders. PCORI requires that patients and other stakeholders be engaged as active contributors in the research process so that the evidence generated is truly helpful to these end users. PCORI developed five national priority areas to guide its research funding and works with its Methodology Committee to establish Methodology Standards for robust clinical research. PCORI also encourages investigators to make their research pragmatic and as closely integrated within clinical practice as possible. The institute has launched a national patient-centered clinical research network, commonly referred to as PCORnet, to support the more efficient conduct of patient-centered CER. Through these efforts, PCORI is changing the way clinical research is done and is assisting the United States in becoming a learning health-care system.
