ResumoEnglishFernandez de Villegas’s translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy (Burgos, 1515) was accompanied by an exhaustive commentary written by the same translator. The bjective of the present article is to describe succinctly the general characteristics of the genre 'commentary' and the particular characteristics of Villegas’s work in order to identify those features that place it more on the side of humanism than on the side of medieval scholasticism.
