Background and aims Huntington’s Disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder, characterised by psychiatric and cognitive changes, and loss of motor coordination. The investigation about HD is often in Europe and some countries worldwide. The aim of the present study was to verify prevalence and literature about HD in Brazil. Methods We have collected data by Associação Brasil Huntington that registers families of all states in Brazil. We found a few papers about HD in Brazil. Results The Associação Brasil Huntington (ABH), is the only institution that has available data about HD in all the Brazilian states and Federal District. There is a register with 1.633 families. Some studies have shown that only two states present towns with statistics and literature : Ervália in Minas Gerais State, where the prevalence is 7,2/10.000 inhabitants, and Feira Grande in Alagoas State, which prevalence is 1/10.000 inhabitants. The limited number of papers suggests that diagnosis is scarce in Brazil, which population is 204 millions of inhabitants. Conclusions The number of families with HD in Brazil, according available data, and a few research found suggests that HD is poorly diagnosed in Brazil. Studies are needed to elucidate this matter.
