This book arises from a conference held in Rome to celebrate some 50 years of work by the distinguished Italian physicist Edoardo Amaldi. The main aim of the conference was to review the state of present knowledge in the area of physics where Amaldi's contribution has been most significant, namely, the study of fundamental interactions.
