In this text (speech), the author -as the patron of the 7th Book Fair of Sananduva, RS, whose theme was Reader training: a leap of quality for the public school -brings a number of reflections on reader training today.He emphasizes some traces of the history of the reader, born together with writing, the milestone of the so-called history of humankind.He emphasizes how the writing and reading skills have served the interest of the powerful throughout times.And he points out the basic conditions for the existence of critical readers and the responsibility, not only of the school, but of all State institutions, both public and private, in their training, guarantying one of the most sacred human rights in a democratic society.
