O presente artigo é um estudo acerca da relação dos rios com os espaços urbanos, averiguando especificamente as formas de gestão, uso e ocupação das margens do Rio Guamirim, no perímetro urbano de São Miguel do Oeste, Santa Catarina. O Rio Guamirim foi uma importante fonte de contribuição para o surgimento, crescimento e desenvolvimento do município, porém, atualmente encontra-se desintegrado do contexto urbano, caracterizando uma paisagem sujeita ao esquecimento. Embora sua história seja marcada por graves problemas ambientais dentre eles inundações, é evidente o aumento de construções irregulares ocupando as Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APPs). Portanto, este artigo busca identificar as intervenções urbanas ocorridas ao longo das margens do Rio Guamirim, que ocasionaram a sua descaracterização, além de compreender a influência da falta de fiscalização e cumprimento das legislações ambientais vigentes. Assim, tem-se como objetivo destacar a necessidade de políticas públicas capazes de minimizar os impactos oriundos dessas práticas e propor alternativas condizentes com a situação predominante. The Guamirim River was an important source of contribution to the emergence, growth and development of the city, however, currently it is disintegrated of the urban context, characterizing a landscape subject to oblivion. Although its history is marked by serious environmental problems among them floods, it is clear the increase of irregular buildings which are occupying the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs). Therefore, this article seeks to identify the urban interventions that have taken place along the margins of Guamirim River, which caused its disfigurement, besides to understand the influence of lack of supervision and compliance with current environmental legislation. Thus, it has been aimed to highlight the need for public policies to minimize the impacts arising from these practices and then to propose suitable alternatives with the predominant situation.
