ResumoAfter nominated ombudsman and Judge of the Woods in the District of Ilhéus in 1797, Baltasar da Silva Lisboa remained in that position for nearly twenty years.In that responsibility he has written about ten memories with great detailed descriptions about the vital needs of the woods and customs of the from that country.This study aims at discussing his role as a traditional Judge of the Woods of the District of Ilhéus, highlighting the statute on ways of cutting the trees; the interests of the economic activity and the emergence of an awareness of the necessity of preserving the Environment and woods in the Brazil.
