Resumo

The article presents the teaching of the Cappadocian Fathers on the subject of the family as a community of love and mutual responsibility. The basis for the study is formed by the selected works of Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, Gregory of Nyssa and Asterius of Amasea - for the most part, the testimonies of their family life where they were raised. According to their concept, the love that joins a family community should have its foundation in the love of God. The Fathers underscore that all members of the family are responsible for each other. What plays an important role in the upbringing of children is the parents’ example. It should be noted that the teaching of the Cappadocian Fathers presents the picture of a perfect family. Yet it makes for a good model in the formation of all Christian families.
