ResumoThe Feyenoord Stadium, built in 1938, needed a face-lift. When building new Stadiums it is wise to integrate the cantilevering gallery-rood with the bearing structure of the gallery itself. This was not possible with the existing Stadium. The special features of the plan of the Feyenoord Stadium are its strong curvature at the corners and the long, more or less, straight sides. This required a totally new structural approach. Up to now tensile ring systems were only applied on circular or at least oval plans. The development of this rectangular tensile ring system has been realised with the aid of the DIANA-computer program. Since with the presented system any plan-shape can be roofed this structural development is one step ahead in the history of spatial roof-structures.
