ResumoABSTRACT. Objective: The implant placement requires the preparation of a socket through the use of surgical drills. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the wear of two types of twist drills (Implacil De Bortoli), with and without internal irrigation. Materials and methods: Three drills of each type were used. With each one, 50 holes were performed in a sample made of a synthetic product developed for this study, where the only variable was the time of drilling. For data analysis we used ANOVA with Tukey's test. Results: In the comparative analysis of the drilling time of drills with double irrigation and single irrigation used in different numbers of uses, it could be seen that there was no statistically significant difference for the comparison between the number of uses (p <0.05) and the types of irrigation ( p <0.05). Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that there is a loss of effectiveness in both types of drills, which until the 20th punching are still effective and from this point begin to lose efficiency getting criticism from the 35th drilling. For SEM micrographs, the wear is not very evident, as can be concluded that clinically is much more difficult to detect this problem.
