Este artigo pretende abordar a trajetoria da industria automotiva do Brasil e da Chinaentre a decada de 1950 e inicio da decada de 1960, comparando as politicas desenvolvidas pelos Estados que visaram a instalacao das montadoras nestes paises. Para o Brasil, o Grupo Executivo da Industria Automotiva (GEIA) se revelou central para a realizacao dos planos do governo de Juscelino Kubistchek em fechar o mercado automotivo brasileiro para as importacoes de forma a obrigar as multinacionais a instalarem plantas no pais. Para a China, os dois primeiros Planos Quinquenais orientaram a acao do Partido Comunista na execucao de centenas de projetos, muitos deles com auxilio sovietico, entre os quais a criacao de sua primeira planta automotiva. Apesar dos objetivos em comum destes paises na criacao de um setor automotivo domestico, a forma como cada Estado conduziu este processo levou a diversas diferencas que resultaram em configuracoes distintas entre os setores automotivos brasileiro e chines. ABSTRACT: This article aims to address the history of the automotive industry in Brazil and China between the 1950s and early 1960s, comparing the policies developed by the states which aimed to install assembly plants in these countries. For Brazil, the Executive Group of the Automotive Industry (Grupo Executivo da Industria Automotiva – GEIA) has proved central to the achievement of the Juscelino Kubitschek’s government plans to close the Brazilian auto market to imports in order to force the multinationals to install plants in the country. For China, the first two Five-Year Plans guided the action of the Communist Party in the execution of hundreds of projects, many with Sovietic aid, including the creation of the first automotive plant. Despite Brazil’s and China’s common goals in the creation of the domestic automotive industry, how each state led this process created several differences that resulted in distinct settings between the Brazilian and Chinese automotive sectors.KEYWORDS: GEIA, Brazilian Automotive Industry, Chinese Automotive Industry
