ResumoConsidering the present symbolic status of the Emperor of Japan, the following article aims to analyze what image Akihito creates of himself through his speeches, which are available at the Imperial Household Agency website, both in Japanese and in English.The analysis is based on the perspective of the Discourse Analysis of enunciative basis and on Foucault's considerations on power relations.
