ResumoThis essay re-introduces some words said and written about the ancestrality, life and death of Penitentiary Complex “Prof. Flaminio Favero” - the notorious Carandiru. Adds, then some more words to show the distances between what is said and what is made, for thus unveiling glaring contradictions in reality (prisional and urban) in Brazil. Analyzed in the light of current theories of social psychology, these contradictions reveal some psychosocial factors that conditioned the construction, maintenance during over five decades and, finally, the deconstruction of that prison. Among these factors, we discuss particularly the attitude of idealization of boundaries between the City and Prison, corresponding to the disavowal of the aspects that equate. This procedure contribute to create and strengthening distorted images, not just the Prison and the City, but also of the humans that inhabit, converting them into victims or perpetrators of violences and sufferings whose reals sources may thus remain obscure.
