RESUMO: Este artigo faz uma analise de tres poemas do livro As Metamorfoses , de Murilo Mendes. A obra, dividida em duas partes, coloca Murilo Mendes em um dilema: como, em tempos de guerra, permanecer fiel ao sublime? As duas partes do livro respondem a pergunta a sua maneira e nossa analise, escolhendo casualmente dois poemas da primeira (o inicial e o final) e um (interno) da segunda parte, procura fixar-se na visao de homem que emerge desse dilema. Ao final, como comprovacao da unidade formal do livro, os tres poemas se fundem, saindo da casualidade, e tecem uma integridade que, nao importando de que ponto se olhe, equidista de um centro terrivel e incompreensivel, de onde surgem guerras e tambem poemas. ABSTRACT: This paper is an analysis of three poems from the book As Metamorfoses , by Murilo Mendes. The work is divided into two parts, which puts Murilo Mendes in a dilemma: how to remain faithful to the sublime in wartime? Both parts of the book answer such question in their own way, and our analysis of choosing by chance two poems from the first part (the beginning and the end) and one (from the inside) of the second part seeks to set up the view of mankind that arises from this dilemma. At the end, as an evidence of the formal unit of the book, the three poems merge, out of chance, and design an integrity that, no matter from which stand point one looks, is at the same distance of a terrible and incomprehensible center, from which arise wars and also poems.
