ResumoThe aim of this article is to examine Yves Michaud’s main ideas on the possibility of reaching an agreement between our aesthetic criteria, from the perspective of a radical pluralism. Starting with Wittgenstein’s contextualism and Hume’s conventionalism, Michaud proposes a “moderate relativism” as an alternative both to the institutional definitions of art and to the reductionist responses of the traditional aesthetics. This approach supposes an expansion of old concepts as the aesthetic experience and the judgement of taste, considered as essential for the communicativity in the art world. Although the disagreement considering taste cannot be surpassed by debate, the contrast between our aesthetic criteria can lead to their pluralization, having in mind that taste is contingent, thus flexible.
