ResumoEcology and gas exchange were investigated in 11 species of fruticose lichens of the pine heath forests in the landscape "Oberlausitz" (Saxonia). Results showed parallels between the activity of gas exchange of the species and their taxonomical categories. Water vapor uptake of all investigated lichens brought a distinct surplus of photosynthesis. Certainly, most of other lichens, which were not studied here, behave so too. The investigations permitted conclusion, that there is a distinct daily and seasonal rhythm of the activity of gas exchange: in the cooler season many long, but low, in summer whereas few short, but intensive periods of activity.
