Resumo

Mangroves are ecosystems of native vegetation communities of flooded environments, resistant to high salinity of water and soil, presenting propitious conditions for reproduction of many animal species. So they are considered an important transformer of nutrients in organic matter. The objective of this work was to characterize the plant community and the phytosociological structure of the external zone up to the inner zone of the mangrove located in the Serra do Guararu Park, in Guaruja, Sao Paulo, in order to identify the plant species and their density under different abiotic conditions. In order to do so, the model of analysis chosen was the Point Center Quarter Method, observed that there are differences between the diameter and the density of the trees of the external zone compared to the trees of the inner zone. It was possible to observe that in the outer zone of the mangrove tree of the trees present a greater proportion of individuals of smaller diameter, because in these areas the rates of mortality and recruitment are higher. Therefore, these results serve as a warning for the need for new surveys and analysis of the local vegetation structure. Key words: Mangroves, plant community, Point Center Quarter.
