Resumo

This article presents an account of the musical ethnography developed in the Master’s thesis entitled “Violão-Canção: diálogos entre o violão solo e a canção popular do Brasil” [Guitar and Song: Dialogues between Solo Guitar and Popular Song in Brazil]. It is based on interviews with seven artists that are references in this field: João Bosco, Sérgio Assad, Luiz Tatit, Paulo Bellinati, Paulo César Pinheiro, Marco Pereira and Guinga; and it is developed through the points of contact between the universe of the solo guitar and the song, as well as between artistic and scientific achievements, taking advantage from both resources from classical music – related to music score and written tradition – and resources from current popular song. Its effective support is the recording audio and video. Thus, the project generates its own set of tools which have been shaping its developments, which are gradually released, such as films, books, and websites
