“Eu estive aqui”: o Bildungsroman pós-colonial de Dulce Maria Cardoso

RESUMO: Publicado em 2011, O retorno , de Dulce Maria Cardoso, revisita ficcionalmente o fim do imperio portugues em Africa, o subsequente processo de descolonizacao e a saga dos retornados que, no rescaldo da revolucao democratica, regressaram a uma patria-miragem, para muitos apenas imaginada. Convocando o testemunho de um narrador adolescente, a autora reconstitui as circunstâncias dramaticas do retorno de uma familia radicada em Angola, bem como o doloroso itinerario de amputacao identitaria e posterior reinvencao ontologica que os seus membros serao forcados a percorrer na metropole. Recuperando o inventario topico e os gestos processuais do Bildungsroman classico, o romance de Dulce Maria Cardoso dele propoe uma glosa narrativa pos-colonial, instabilizando o convencional otimismo antropologico que lhe e subjacente. Aprender, em O retorno , significa, pois, antes de mais, contrariar a amnesia historica e sobreviver a perda. ABSTRACT: Published in 2011, O retorno , by Dulce Maria Cardoso, provides a fictional reenactment of the end of the Portuguese empire in Africa, the ensuing process of decolonization and the dramatic saga of the retornados who, in the aftermath of the democratic revolution, returned to a homeland which for many was but a barely imagined mirage. By evoking the firsthand testimony of an adolescent narrator, the author has sought to reconstruct the dramatic circumstances surrounding the return of a family settled in Angola, as well as the painful process of identity annihilation and subsequent ontological reinvention that its members had to undergo in the metropolis. By drawing on the motifs and fictional devices that shape the classical Bildungsroman , Cardoso’s novel provides a postcolonial gloss on such narrative tradition while disrupting its conventional anthropological optimism. Therefore, in O retorno , learning implies, above all, counteracting historical amnesia and surviving loss.
