Resumo

This article purports to analyse the concept of justice in the light of Nietzsche's philosophy, showing that the origin of justice consists in primitive trade relations, where people become capable of making promises at the expense of the payment of debts. I will investigate how the feeling of vengeance is tied to the Western notion of justice. Then, I will focus on the punishment within the framework of the compensation for damages caused by the failure to comply with the promise established by way of a contract, which is the most important key for the exercise of justice in the West.
