ResumoC. Radulescu-Motru is not primarily known as a historian of philosophy. But he left some remarks on the nature of the activity practised by historians of philosophy. C. Radulescu-Motru argues that philosophy had a special relation to its history, that history of philosophy must be a history of philosophical systems, and that philosophical systems must be examinated within their historical and intellectual context. In this paper my aim is to a) prove that his conception of the historiography of philosophy was heavily influenced by the way of studying philosophy in German universities towards the end of the 19th century, b) bring out that he latched on to the concept of philosophical system as a historiographical tool, without critical examination or discussion, and finally c) evaluate those remarks with reference to what they might contribute to current philosophical debates.
