ResumoThe construction of intra-organic pituitary vessels was studied in cats and dogs with various injection methods. The data obtained confirm the existence of a portal microcirculation in the species studied. The direction of the blood flow in the portal system from the median eminence towards the pars anterior of the adenohypophysis was evidenced by anatomical and experimental findings. Capillary links between the portal system and the capillary plexus both of the arcuate hypothalamic nucleus and the caudal parts of the neurohypophysis were demonstrated. Intravital accumulation of trypan blue revealed macrophage activity of perivascular connective-tissue cells of the portal system. Objective analysis of the hypophyseal portal system capillary architecture was attempted. The peculiarities discovered are discussed in association with capillary construction and metabolic features of the neurosecretory hypothalamic nuclei.
