Digital Transformation in Industry

Manufacturing industry producing high-value products of high quality with short lead times is vital to sustain Western economies. With such a variety of industry in any sophisticated economy, ascertaining its needs and subsequently satisfying them is a difficult task. The authors present a unique partnership venture between industry, government and the University of Sunderland to assist UK industry compete successfully in the 21st century. The Centre for Achievement in Manufacturing and Management (CAMM) will undertake ‘holistic approaches to manufacturing in which the integration of efficiency with high-quality life is fundamental to the successful achievement of a profitable and sustainable competitive advantage’ to serve the needs of the partners. The authors describe the industrial background of the North East of England, how the needs of the present and future industries have been met, and how CAMM is responding to those needs.
