ResumoThis research aims to investigate the semantics of the word bread and terms related to it, in historical Portuguese dictionaries, named: Dictionary Bluteau (1712-1721), Moraes Silva (1813), Laudelino Freire (1957) and Houaiss Dictionary (2009). Were checked diachronic variation, the changes found in the definitions, over time, and the development of the concept of each lexicography. It also analyzes the words related to the bread, and the uses made of it, and expose a small historical overview of the utilization of bread in the course of human history.
