ResumoThe essay explores the different forms and effects of mise en abyme, or the use of mirroring techniques and alter egos, in the works of Philip Roth. In Roth's texts, mise en abyme enables the novelist to avoid rigid limitations of pure autobiography and to express aspects of his personality in a kaleidoscopic multitude of characters.
